“CAPTAIN AMERICA – The Winter Soldier” is surprisingly fun and splendidly riveting!
Among all the deliciously cocky Avengers, Captain America was apparently the least fun, but this film is sure to change that. With a superb suspenseful plot, immersive performances, brilliant CGI, witty humour and bang-for-your-buck action sequences, it’s one terrific entertainer.
The story goes on after the cataclysmic events in New York with The Avengers, Marvel`s Captain America: The Winter Soldier finds Steve Rogers-aka Captain America-living quietly in Washington, DC, and trying to adjust to the modern world. But when a S.H.I.E.L.D. colleague comes under attack, Steve becomes embroiled in a web of intrigue that threatens to put the world at risk. Joining forces with the Black Widow, Captain America struggles to expose the ever-widening conspiracy while fighting off professional assassins sent to silence him at every turn. When the full scope of the villainous plot is revealed, Captain America and the Black Widow enlist the help of a new ally, the Falcon. However, they soon find themselves up against an unexpected and formidable enemy-the Winter Soldier.
The most striking aspect of the film is its perfectly appropriate pacing. It’s neither too fast so as to devoid you of sense, nor too slow to bore you. Then the wondrously engaging screenplay keeps you hooked, eager and hungry for more. It’s amazing to realize how fun this franchise can be, if presented in a manner commonly apprehensible, garnished with revelations and merged with the most essential ingredient of a superhero film – intense action. The CGI is marvellous to say the least. Each frame is gorgeous and the action sequences are as immersive as they could get. In a superbly executed turning point disclosing the secret behind all that’s going wrong, there’s an amazing array of computers setup to artificially preserve the evolution of a real man’s brain. While revealing the twist in the tale, it gives you an insight into what the future holds for us. This is just one of the many sequences, giving us food for thought regarding modern technology and what it has in store for us. Weaving it with an emotionally moving subplot the film combines everything beautifully. The background score is propelling and the visuals opulent.
The performances are led by the hunky Chris Evans, who emerges as a truly well-rounded superhero lead and the magnetic Scarlett Johansson, who’s every act is pure conquest. Samuel Jackson is as usual convincing and Robert Redford is superbly menacing. All others are relevant and apt.
In all, “CAPTAIN AMERICA – The Winter Soldier” is a powerful entertainer that packs in just about everything, right from action and humour, to suspense, drama and pure heroism. Do not miss it!
