EXTRACTION is a pointless mega actioner!

High quality stunts, grand action sets and a riveting performance from Chris Hemsworth, render EXTRACTION watchable. This new Netflix release caters to pure action fans, as there’s not a single scene which moves forward without a gunshot or a punch. However, if you’re someone who doesn’t enjoy hardcore action films, this one will totally tire you out. Watchable, but not recommended!

EXTRACTION tells the story of Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth), who is a fearless black market mercenary with nothing left to lose when his skills are solicited to rescue the kidnapped son of an imprisoned international crime lord. But in the murky underworld of weapons dealers and drug traffickers, an already deadly mission approaches the impossible, forever altering the lives of Rake and the boy.

I had seen the 3-minute trailer of EXTRACTION on Netflix, before I actually saw the film this Friday. After watching the film, I realised that the film hardly offers you anything beyond what the trailer does. That’s how aimless this violent motion picture is. Make no mistake, there's a lot of style, craft, and ambition on display here. It’s a feast for suckers of actioners. It’s just that for nearly two hours, you see bullets flying everywhere and ripping through heads. And when the bullets stop flying, you realize there’s nothing else there.

Coming to the positives, the stunt work is spectacular, to say the least. It’s bombastic and vibrant. It’s the quintessential escapist entertainment. Alas, the script falls short of the production values by a big margin. Personally, I didn't hate it, but I felt like I had already seen this movie a hundred times before. Chris Hemsworth carries this off with panache that only he has. The film, surprisingly, provides opportunity for Chris Hemsworth to show some actual dramatic range too. If for nothing else, watch EXTRACTION for him.

To sum up, EXTRACTION is a film with exceptional action sequences, but no real content. Meant only for action aficionados!
