JOKER is more art-house than blockbuster!

Nothing like the exciting action franchise that it’s a spin-off of, JOKER is a bold, dark, experimental origin story, which is a stark contrast to the character we’ve seen in all the movies before. A masterful performance by its leading star Phoenix, makes this film a must watch for its fans. Not much in it for those who haven’t followed the Batman series yet.

"JOKER" centers around the iconic arch nemesis and is an original, standalone fictional story not seen before on the big screen. Phillips' exploration of Arthur Fleck, is of a man struggling to find his way in Gotham's fractured society. A clown-for-hire by day, he aspires to be a stand-up comic at night...but finds that the joke is always on him. Caught in a cyclical existence between apathy and cruelty, Arthur makes one bad decision that brings about a chain reaction of escalating events.

What happens when a broken person is immersed in a broken environment? A question brilliantly answered by JOKER. The film is essentially a multi-layered tale about the perils of living in a divisive, heartless urban jungle. Thus, in a way, it falls short as an agent of chaos that the Joker is known for, because it has a reason, a story, an explanation, a cause. It brings a dark, unrelenting nihilism to a genre which is never so much about WHY? JOKER is a character study laced with societal commentary, and in a world of ready-made superhero franchises, it's bold and experimental. This take on the character, whose scars are all on the inside, might explain how a person gets that way. The movie gains momentum midway and descends into a storm of grotesque violence.

All the positive things you've heard about Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker are true. He is absolutely phenomenal. Delivering one of the best performances of his career, Phoenix’s transformation to the enigmatic Joker is amazing. His performance alone is worth the price of admission. All others do a great job well.

To sum up, Joker is certainly an interesting and worthy experiment, which despite being part of a fictional universe, becomes a reflection of reality. Recommended for all the fans of the franchise, not so much for the others!
