MARDAANI 2 is a solid entertainer!
Unapologetically playing it to the gallery, MARDAANI 2 is essentially a relevant film that makes a point, albeit in the most mainstream manner possible. Rani Mukherjee and Vishal Jethwa’s bravura acts, coupled with a well-paced screenplay that’s only 1 Hr 40 Mins long, make this a good option for you to watch this weekend!
Rani Mukerji reprises her role as Shivani Shivaji Roy, a cop who is deputed in Kota, where female students are being raped and killed. As the killer keeps taunting Shivani, will she win the game of cat and mouse?
Well shot, with high production values, writer, director Gopi Puthran does a great job at making it a riveting drama, which is just a 100-minutes long. It isn’t without its flaws and script gaps, but remember, this is a purely commercial film, with no intention of adhering to the text-book film-making rules. All it intends to do, is to make its point heard and reach the simplest of audiences. It does its job well there. The violent scenes are gory and not for the faint hearted. But you need such portrayal in order to leave an impact. The background score too is top quality, and the pacing of this cat and mouse chase is just apt.
Rani Mukherjee nails it yet again as the super cop, who can do just about everything. Her presence is powerful and so is her performance. Matching her right from the beginning till the end is the young Vishal Jethwa, who’s as menacing as it gets. Breaking the fourth wall everytime he’s upto something, he manages to hold his own despite having such an extraordinary actor opposite him. All others are good.
To sum up, MARDAANI 2 might not be perfect, but what it set out for, it does perfectly. Creating just the right amount of awareness, without ever getting preachy, it’s a great entertainment package for you this week!
