TANHAJI is an impressive grand spectacle!

Well-mounted and smartly presented, this historic magnum opus is a riveting and visually striking film that entertains you throughout. Go for it!

Tanhaji Malusare was an unsung warrior from the 17th century. His acts of valour and bravery continued to inspire soldiers long after he lost his life in battle. TANHAJI: THE UNSUNG WARRIOR is a visual extravaganza that depicts the life and times of this unsung Maratha warrior, whose valour still makes the Nation proud.

Writer-Director Om Raut seems to know just the way such grand historic blockbusters need to be presented. Fast paced narrative, superb CGI, comic-book style screenplay, and an accessible plot, all of these make for an interesting watch. The duration is also just a little over 2 hours, helping its cause further. Taking cues from the biggest Indian franchise – “Baahubali”, TANHAJI brings to life the 17th century, in the most vivid manner you’ve ever seen in Hindi cinema. This film has got to be a milestone in the visual storytelling of Bollywood.

The film’s weakness lies in the surface level content, which never really makes an effort to dig any deeper. Narrative heft is missing. Also, the film’s clear political stand which resonates with today’s scenario is something which could’ve been easily avoided. But these are small issues in an otherwise extremely entertaining motion picture.

The acting department is good. Ajay Devgn, who takes over almost half an hour into the film, then carries the whole film on his dependably strong shoulders. His conviction as TANHAJI, makes you wonder if there’s anyone else at all who could pull this character off with such panache. Saif-Ali-Khan as the cruel Udaybhan is great too. His menacing depiction brings the much needed deliciousness in the screenplay. All others, including Kajol, do a good job.

To sum up, TANHAJI is film which deserves to run further as a franchise, showcasing more such interesting historic characters. Go watch this spectacular historic chapter, you surely won’t be disappointed!
