The story follows a group of terrified passengers fighting their way through a countrywide viral outbreak while trapped on a suspicion-filled, blood-drenched bullet train ride to Busan, a city that has managed to hold off the zombie hordes, or so everyone hopes.
Arguably the most purely entertaining zombie film in a long time, “TRAIN TO BUSAN” offers a critical view of man's humanity in moments of despair, talking about selfishness and companionship in adverse situations. With blood, gore, zombies and non-stop high octane thrills, this is one throbbing ride that skilfully combines content with engaging action. It is one of the best surprises of the year – a redemption tale that reminds us how close we are to losing our humanity, and also the compassion that we are capable of. Here both zombies and train symbolise the blind forward momentum of an all-consuming capitalism, unchecked by the brake of any social principle. The only major flaw in this otherwise absorbing affair is that the Zombie chase becomes a little monotonous after say the 1.5 hour mark. That apart, it forms a truly fulfilling couple of hours. The actors are competent, but it’s the unique plot that’s the clear winner here.
In all, TRAIN TO BUSAN is a complete entertainer that delivers plenty of bloody violence and breathless action, punctuated by social commentary, strong characters and a decent dose of melodrama. Go for it, I’m sure you won’t regret watching this one!
